Brian King

Chancellor, Los Rios Community College District

Brian serves as Chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District in Sacramento, California.  Los Rios is one of the largest multi-college districts in America and covers more than 2,400 square miles of central California. The District includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges, and currently enrolls more than 80,000 students each semester.  Brian was President of Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, California, for nine years before coming to the Los Rios District.  During that time, Cabrillo College lead a county-wide initiative, the Santa Cruz County College Commitment, that focused on increasing college readiness and improving college completion rates in the region.  An active member in the Santa Cruz community, King was a Board Member and President-Elect for the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce and a Board Member for the Dominican Hospital.  Brian serves on the American Council on Education's Commission on Inclusion, the Valley Vision Board of Directors and is a member of the Sacramento Rotary.  He is the immediate past-Chair of the California Community College Athletic Association Board of Directors, and was recently a Fulbright Fellow to Russia with a group of national community college leaders. King received his B.A. in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia, his J.D. from Duke University School of Law, and his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas.
