In early 2015, the four Capital Region Workforce Boards (Sacramento Employment and Training Agency –SETA, Golden Sierra Workforce Board, North Central Counties Consortium and Yolo County Workforce Board) approached U.S.SourceLink for assistance in mapping the resources in the nine-county region that support entrepreneurs and business owners. The goal of this project was to better understand the entrepreneurial ecosystem, both strengths and gaps, in order to facilitate strategic planning for the Capital Region’s Project SlingShot. The mission of SlingShot is to strengthen the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and catalyze a culture of innovation, thereby spurring economic growth and job creation.
This report provides a high level mapping of the Capital Region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem around six key aspects that create the foundation for a thriving ecosystem, by type of entrepreneur. Approximately 170 organizations were charted based on a draft inventory of entrepreneurial and startup services prepared by Valley Vision, which is coordinating the SlingShot strategic planning.
